Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has sounded the alarm, alleging that certain individuals within the Igbo community are plotting against him solely because of his leadership role in the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization.
Iwuanyanwu’s claims come in the wake of a series of incidents, including the tragic death of former Ohanaeze President General, Prof. George Obizor, whose residence in Imo State was reportedly set ablaze by these same individuals.
Addressing journalists after a meeting of the National Executive Committee of Ohanaeze at the organization’s National Secretariat in Enugu, Iwuanyanwu expressed grave concern over the escalating threats to his life and the stability of the Igbo community.
He recounted past attempts on the lives of former Ohanaeze leaders, including Chief Nnia Nwodo, whose residence was bombed, and the late Chief George Obizor, whose house and academic works were destroyed before his demise.
Moreover, Iwuanyanwu revealed his own experiences of intimidation and threats, attributing them to his unwavering commitment to serving the Igbo people.
Highlighting the urgent need to address the growing unrest within the Igbo community, Iwuanyanwu emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity in the face of external threats.
He asserted that there is no faction within Ohanaeze Ndigbo and pledged to root out dissenting voices within the organization. Plans were announced to present the names of those deemed responsible for subversive activities to Ime Obi, Ohanaeze’s highest decision-making body, for appropriate action.
In conclusion, Iwuanyanwu stressed the imperative of halting the disruptive actions of these individuals to safeguard the future of the Igbo people, urging swift and decisive measures to quell the growing discord within the community.
