Controversy trails widespread allegations of diversion of palliative sent to Taraba State by the federal government to cushion the effects of hard times.
National Trail gathered that there is public outcry in the state over alleged diversion of federal government palliative, comprising bags of Rice, Maize, Guenin Corn and Fertilisers released to the state.
Findings revealed that the commodities were allegedly re- bagged and sold to grain dealers in Jalingo while several bags of palliative and Fertilizer were also sold to traders from neighbouring states.
Our correspondent discovered that larger number of bags of the Federal government palliative were found in Jalingo main market and Kasuwan Yalwa and are being sold to the public at the normal market rates.
The Federal government palliative which is an old stocks is sold at N1400 while the one from farmers which is fresh is sold per Mudu at N1800 while bags of fertilizers NPK and Urea are sold at the market prices of N32,000 and N35,000 .
When contacted, the state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Saviour Nokun confirmed that it was local government areas that first got the allocations and, adding that if there was cases of diversion then it should be the council Chairmen.
He confirmed that because of widespread outcry of alleged diversion of the communities, he personally visited the Jalingo main market and found the commodities in some market stores.
Alhaji Hassan Aminu Jauro, Chairman, Jalingo local governmentwho doubles as Chairman of ALGON in Taraba State has refused to comment on the matter as he has remained elusive, including declining to pick all phone calls put across by our correspondent.
