The Progressives Governors’ Forum has issued a plea for restraint from Nigerians, acknowledging the economic difficulties stemming from President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms and policies. The governors, all elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed their belief that the country will overcome these challenges.
Following a closed-door meeting on Wednesday night, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, urged Nigerian youths to avoid participating in the planned nationwide protest. He emphasized that the president needs time to address and rectify the current economic issues.
Uzodimma remarked, “We have examined the various policies of this government and recognize that they are facing initial challenges. However, we believe that these reforms are essential for resolving the economic hardships our country is experiencing.”
He expressed optimism that the situation will improve in the near future and assured that prosperity will follow the successful implementation of these policies. The governor advised young Nigerians to resist being drawn into actions that could lead to crisis or chaos.
Uzodimma highlighted the compounded difficulties facing the nation, including global economic downturns, domestic insecurity, political tensions exacerbated by opposition campaigns, and critical social media commentary on government policies.
He concluded by calling for national unity and patriotism, urging citizens to take ownership of their country and support the government’s efforts. “We have no other country to call our own. It is in the interest of the nation that we remain patient and supportive,” he said, reinforcing the message that the government’s intentions are aligned with national well-being.
