The Deji of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo, has issued an order for the closure of all markets, shops, and stalls within Akure metropolis in observance of the annual Amole festival. The directive, rooted in the tradition and culture of Akureland, was announced through a statement by the Deji’s Chief Press Secretary, Adeyeye Michael.
The statement emphasized that no market, shop, stall, community, or quarter within Akure would be exempt from this closure, with the only exception being pharmacy shops, which are allowed to remain open during the festival.
“Without mincing words and for the sake of emphasis, we wish to inform residents that no shop, market, stalls, community or quarter within the Akure metropolis will be exempted under any guise from observing this festival,” the statement read. Traditional rulers and quarter chiefs were also urged to ensure compliance within their domains.
However, the closure of markets will not restrict human or vehicular movement within the city. The palace expressed gratitude to the state government and security agencies for their cooperation in preserving Akure’s revered culture and tradition during the Amole festival.
