DSS in Ogun State Apprehends Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed and 5 Others for Involvement in Sagamu Cult Clashes

Operatives from the Department of State Security (DSS) in Ogun State have arrested Hon. Damilare Bello Mohammed, a sitting member of the State House of Assembly (OGHA), on suspicions of his involvement in the recent rival secret cult clashes that claimed the lives of eight individuals in Sagamu town.

Hon. Bello, who was elected to represent Sagamu State Constituency 1 on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform, was taken into custody along with five other individuals believed to be connected to the cult-related violence. The additional suspects, identified as Debbo Animashaun, Bamidele Saheed, Ismaila Onitire, Adewale Otesanya, and Tobi Owoade, were apprehended during a DSS sting operation, prompted by a tip-off, at the lawmaker’s residence in the early hours of Thursday.

According to a statement by Lekan Adeniran, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the DSS had been tracking the activities of these six suspected cultists since Wednesday. They were allegedly being harbored by Hon. Bello in his official residence.

The statement further revealed that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation while dangerous weapons, including firearms, were seized from them.

It’s worth noting that Hon. Bello was previously arrested in February of this year by the DSS for his alleged involvement in orchestrating a violent protest in Sagamu. The protest resulted in the destruction of around 10 banks and other public infrastructure. This violence was sparked by the naira redesign policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
