The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has named Eric Sekou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, entrusting him with the mission of leading the team to the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
In a statement released Tuesday, the NFF announced Chelle’s appointment, emphasizing his role in securing Nigeria’s qualification for the global tournament. Details regarding the duration of his contract were not disclosed.
Chelle’s Managerial Journey
The 47-year-old former Mali international brings significant experience to his new role. Chelle previously managed Mali’s national team, guiding them to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. However, his tenure ended in June 2024 after just over two years in charge.
Before transitioning to international management, Chelle coached French lower-division clubs, including Martigues and Boulogne.
