The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has declared its intention to identify and eliminate the producers and distributors of the illicit crystal meth known as mkpulu mmiri in the Southeast region of Nigeria.
In a recent statement, IPOB attributed the rise in violent crime in Orlu to the return of drug dealers from South Africa, asserting that these individuals aim to destroy Igbo youth. The group claims to have uncovered approximately ten factories in Umuaka, Orlu, allegedly operated by six individuals who have returned from South Africa.
IPOB accused both the Nigerian and Imo State governments, as well as local security forces, of providing cover for these illicit operations. They stated that the drug dealers, who reportedly own hotels and nightclubs in Owerri, utilize these establishments for the distribution of drugs across various states, including Lagos, Kano, and Rivers.
The organization emphasized that the ongoing violence in Orlu is unrelated to the quest for Biafra’s independence, asserting that some drug dealers falsely align themselves with the Biafran cause. They warned those involved in the mkpulu mmiri trade to cease operations immediately, stating that they possess the identities of those involved and will take action against them if they do not comply.
IPOB further called on the Igbo community to support efforts against the drug cartel, urging individuals to refrain from consuming or distributing mkpulu mmiri. They emphasized that these drug operations threaten the future of Igbo youth and that they are committed to protecting their community from such destructive activities.
