The Kwara State Government has commenced the distribution of 3,000 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to livestock farmers and value chain operators in the State, under the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES).
The exercise, which took place at the Olushola Saraki Abattoir, Akerebiata, in Ilorin, the state capital, was well attended by members of the Kwara State Butchers Union, elders of the union including Seriki Fawa, Alhaji Suleiman Seriki, Iyaloja of the Market, and other stakeholders.
In his remarks, the State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, said the PPE kits were meant for the safety of livestock farmers, butchers, meat processors, and other value chain players in the sector.
The Coordinator, represented by Mr. Awoyemi Raphael, urged the beneficiaries of the items to ensure judicious use of the kits with a view to spurring government to do more in improving their businesses.
The Seriki Fawa of the market, Alhaji Suleiman Seriki, thanked the Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, kwara L-PRES Coordination Office, and other development partners for the kind gesture, assuring them that the items and other facilities in the market would be well protected.
On his part, the State Chairman of the Butchers Union, Alhaji Mohammed Salihu Dangote, assured the World Bank and the State Government of their unalloyed support to achieve their aims of eradicating poverty in the Country.
Items distributed included aprons, boots, rain coats, gloves, and nose masks.
