On September 25, 2024, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) took decisive action against environmental law violations by sealing several prayer centers and business premises across the state. This enforcement initiative aims to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safeguard public health.
In a statement shared on X.com by Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, it was revealed that multiple establishments had been found guilty of violating environmental laws despite receiving several warnings from LASEPA.
The agency’s operation focused on areas including Ikeja, Mushin, Gbagada, and Maryland. Among the closed establishments were notable names such as Vital Products Limited, A & P Nigeria Limited, Polite Anchorage and Suites, and various churches, including the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Celestial Church of God. Other affected businesses included Terrag Inn Apartment, Evening Class Guest House, a printing press, Charley’s Bar, and 7th Heaven Hotel & Suites.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, emphasized the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards non-compliance, stating, “We will not tolerate non-compliance with our regulations.” He urged all businesses to acknowledge their environmental responsibilities and work collaboratively with the state government to foster a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.
This enforcement action underscores LASEPA’s commitment to tackling noise pollution and other environmental issues within the state, reinforcing the importance of adhering to established environmental laws.
