NDLEA seizes 10.5 tons of illicit drugs in Maiduguri
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Borno State Command has uncovered 10.522 kilograms of compressed cannabis sativa also known as “wee wee” allegedly concealed in a warehouse in Maiduguri.
The Chairman, NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Abdallah, (Rtd) disclosed this in a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs of the agency, Mr Jonah Achema, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.
According to the statement, one suspect was also arrested in connection with the drugs.
He described the discovery of the illicit drugs, which was contained in 183 giant size bags as the single largest seizure within the North Eastern States.
The NDLEA boss said that the warehouse, located at Ungwan Doki, Maigadari Ward, adjacent Borno State Environmental Protection Agency, consisted of a three-bedroom and three-room boys’ quarters.
According to him, one Modu Fanami, who lives in the compound with his wife and two children was arrested in connection with the banned substance.
“Fanami admitted that he served as the errand boy to one Uche (now at large) who is the real owner of the drug business.
“A Gulf Car used by Fanami to take delivery of each consignment from the point of arrival to the warehouse was also seized by the agency.

“The agency has launched a manhunt for the arrest of those behind the criminal merchandise, ”he said.
The NDLEA chairman noted that the seizure came after weeks of painstaking surveillance and monitoring.
According to him, the seizure is likely to have links with transnational syndicate cartels and the Boko Haram insurgents in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.
He observed that it could not be ruled out that the drugs were for onward shipment to the bordering Niger, Chad and Cameroon because of the quantity involved.
“Nigerians need to wake up from their slumber and rise up to the challenge of drugs if this quantity can be found in Bornu State where Cannabis is not cultivated and knowing the nexus between drugs and terrorism.
“Then our communities cannot afford to be passive, but be actively involved in drug control efforts. Vigilance is the word!, ”he said.
Abdallah recalled that the agency publicly destroyed 100, 143.218 Kilograms of drug exhibits, mainly Cannabis sativa in Badagry-Lagos recently.
He said that the drugs were recovered within the period of five years by the agency’s eight operational formations in Lagos, covering land borders, sea and airports.
“The agency also closed the year 2019 with the destruction of 181.2 tons of cannabis during its Operation Thunder Strike IV which combed the forests of Ondo and Edo States where the cannabis were harvested and stored for onward movement to the drug market.
“The agency in the course of the operation stormed Ala Forest in Ondo State and Uzebba and Ihkin Okpoji forests in Owan West LGA of Edo State where the drugs were discovered in warehouses and thereafter set them ablaze,”he said.
The NDLEA chairman assured members of the public that the agency would sustain its crackdown on the illicit drug market.
“We will ensure that the agency did not only disrupt the activities of those behind the heinous drug crime, but will dismantle their networks and defeat them ultimately,”he said.
Three suspected kidnappers have been killed by a mob in Emu Orakwan community, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Sources said that the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Oct. 6, when hunters and farmers in the area sighted the suspects at Akabueze camp.
The suspects were said to be among those who allegedly murdered a woman identified as Mrs. Ogbona on Oct. 1.
It was gathered that upon receiving the information, villagers and farmers mobilised and descended on the suspects, inflicting severe injuries on them before the arrival of security operatives.
Army troops accompanied by police personnel, moved swiftly to the scene and met the suspects at the point of death.
They were immediately taken to the General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
Their remains have been deposited at Imiuwuguina Mortuary, while investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The Member representing Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Raheem Tunji Olawuyi Ajuloopin, has strongly condemned the recent attack in Idofin Odo-Ashe, Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing it as a cowardly act that seeks to disrupt the peace and stability of the community.
Hon. Ajuloopin, in a statement personally signed by him, expressed deep concern over the unfortunate incident and sympathised with the victims, their families, and the entire community affected by the dastardly attack, emphasising that acts of violence have no place in a civilised society, and therefore urged security agencies to intensify efforts in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
While commending the swift response of both the federal and Kwara State governments, as well as the security agencies and local vigilante groups, the lawmaker reiterated that the fight against insecurity requires collective responsibility, calling on traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security operatives by providing timely and credible information.
“Security is everyone’s business. We cannot afford to leave the safety of our communities solely to government agencies. Every citizen must be actively involved in safeguarding our environment and ensuring that peace prevails,” Hon. Ajuloopin admonished.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continued collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure that lasting peace in all parts of Kwara South and beyond.
Hon. Ajuloopin also appealed for calm, assuring that both the federal and state governments are working tirelessly to address the root causes of insecurity and prevent future occurrences.

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a suspected cross-border kidnapper and recovered two AK-47 rifles, 80 rounds of live ammunition, and other items in a major operation targeting kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
Police spokesperson DSP Buhari Abdullahi said the suspect, identified as Adamu Adamu, aged 30, from Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State but residing in Jauro Jatau Quarters, Akko LGA, was arrested on October 4, 2025, following credible intelligence linking him to a kidnapping network operating between Nigeria and Cameroon.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out by Operation Hattara led by CSP Ali Madaki under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to taking part in several kidnapping operations.
He was said to have led police operatives to a mountainous area near Wuro Biriji Village in Song LGA, Adamawa State, where two AK-47 rifles with serial numbers 05316 and 3553, 80 rounds of live ammunition, seven magazines, chains, padlocks, a knife, and four small bags were recovered.
The police said the suspect is in custody while efforts are underway to arrest other members of the syndicate and dismantle their network.
Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to enhance peace and safety in the state.
