Enyimba International FC has been hit with severe penalties by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for their conduct during the Match Day 35 game against Rangers International FC at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on June 9th. The NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, outlined the club’s infractions in a letter dated June 10.
Enyimba violated multiple league rules, leading to significant fines and sanctions:
- Rule C9 Violation: Failing to ensure the proper conduct of players, officials, and supporters.
- Rule B6.23 Violation: Disrupting the live broadcast of the match.
- Rule B13.18 Violation: Allowing the team and supporters to throw objects and encroach onto the field of play.
- Rule C1.1 Violation: Refusing to resume the match in protest against a penalty awarded to their opponents, considered against fair play, sportsmanship, and league rules.
- Rule B13.24 Violation: Instigating the disturbance and premature termination of the match.
The specific penalties include:
- ₦1 million for failing to ensure proper conduct.
- ₦5 million for disrupting the live broadcast.
- ₦1 million for throwing objects onto the field.
- ₦1 million for encroachment onto the field.
- ₦2 million for causing the disruption and discontinuation of the match.
- Forfeiture of three points and three goals in favor of their opponent for not allowing the penalty to be taken.
Additionally, Enyimba must identify and present for investigation players involved in the disruption: Eze Ekwutoziam (Jersey No. 6), Chibuike Nwaiwu (Jersey No. 27), and Akanni Elijah (Jersey No. 10).
The NPFL has given Enyimba 48 hours to accept the penalties or face a disciplinary panel, with the possibility of further sanctions for non-compliance or frivolous appeals.
