Ondo Election: Tinubu Urges Peaceful, Transparent Process Reflecting People’s Will
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for a peaceful and credible governorship election in Ondo State, emphasizing the importance of a process that genuinely reflects the will of the people.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President appealed to political stakeholders, candidates, and the electorate to prioritize peace and civility throughout the election period.
Upholding Democratic Principles
President Tinubu stressed that the mandate to govern stems from the people and must be earned through transparent and respectful electoral practices.
“President Tinubu anticipates a democratic process in Ondo State that will genuinely reflect the people’s will and their power to freely choose their leaders,” the statement read.
He urged all participants to fulfill their civic duties without intimidation or fear, ensuring that the election process remains fair and unbiased.
Commitment to Credibility
Acknowledging the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu commended the timely distribution of sensitive materials across all 18 local government areas of the state.
He also lauded the deployment of security personnel to maintain law and order during the election, emphasizing the importance of professionalism and adherence to the Electoral Act.
“The President appreciates assurances from the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff that their personnel will act professionally to guarantee a credible process,” the statement noted.
Strengthening Nigeria’s Democracy
President Tinubu highlighted the significance of a free and fair election in strengthening Nigeria’s 25 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
“It is in the best interest of all Nigerians to ensure a free and fair election and consolidate our over 25 years of democratic governance,” the statement concluded.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
