OPCI absolves itself from Ikire crisis that claims two lives
By Steve Oni, Ilorin
The Oodua Progressive Care Initiative (OPCI) has stated that no member of its organisation was involved in the crisis that rocked Ikire town, Osun state, where two people lost their lives and scores sustained various degrees of injuries.
In a statement made available to journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, the Osun state Acting Coordinator of OPCI, Dr. Hammed Daramola Idowu, said: “We want to state it here point blank and set the record straight by saying it categorically that those who were referred to as members of OPCI were not, as far as OPCI, Osun state is concerned.
“Though some years back, it was on record that some members of the outlawed group, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and members of OPCI in Irewole local government area of Osun state had engaged themselves in a surviving battle during which one Akerele and some members of his group believed to belong to Gani Adams’ OPC were arrested and charged to court of law by Osun state police command.
“In year 2020, one Semiu Agbeyangi who was then the state Coordinator of OPCI in Osun and his group in Apomu/Ikire were suspended from the organisation for their involvement in series of crises that rocked Ikire/Apomu, especially the crisis between hoodlums in Ikire/Apomu and the Nigerian army.
“When the National body of OPCI found Agbeyangi and his group guilty of the offences and allegations levelled against them, they were summarily expelled from the Oodua Progressive Care Initiative (OPCI ), a proof that OPCI does not condone violence and indiscipline under any guise.
“We hereby call on the state Authority to investigate the genealogy of the crisis which resulted in termination of the lives of those youngsters and bring the hoodlums to book.
“The OPCI in Osun state will not relent in is efforts to ensure that peace reigns supreme in the state as we continue to give necessary support to the law enforcement agencies in their bid to nip crime and criminality in the bud in Osun state.”

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
