The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its Supervisory Presiding Officer (SPO) assigned to Registration Area – 06 (Ossioma) in Sagbama local government area of the state has been released from captivity. Mr. Wilfred Ifogah, Head of Voter Education and Publicity at the INEC State Headquarters in Yenagoa, confirmed the officer’s freedom, stating that he is in good health.
The abduction took place on the eve of the election, precisely on Friday. The SPO, whose identity has not been disclosed, was reportedly abducted while awaiting transportation to his designated area at Amassoma Jetty.
As of now, the Police Spokesman in Bayelsa, CSP Asinim Butswat, could not be reached for comments on the circumstances surrounding the abduction and the subsequent release of the INEC official.
