Russia Strikes Eastern Ukraine, Killing 12 Amid Rising Tensions

At least 12 people were killed in overnight Russian strikes on eastern Ukraine, the country’s emergency service reported Saturday. The attacks come just days before US and Ukrainian negotiators meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss a potential truce.

A Russian assault late Friday targeted the center of Dobropillia in the Donetsk region, killing 11 people and injuring 30, authorities said. Additionally, a separate drone attack in Bogodukhiv killed one person and wounded seven, according to Kharkiv region military head Oleg Synegubov.

The strikes follow US President Donald Trump’s threats of new sanctions and tariffs on Russia. However, Trump suggested it might be “easier” to negotiate with Moscow than Kyiv. His comments came after suspending US aid to Ukraine and urging both sides to negotiate a peace settlement.

“Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, signaling potential large-scale financial measures against Moscow. He urged both nations to engage in talks before the situation worsens.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held discussions with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, as diplomatic efforts continue amid escalating violence.
