Stella Damasus Reveals Her Original Surname Was Ojukwu, Changed During the Nigerian Civil War

Veteran Nollywood actress Stella Damasus has revealed that her family name was changed during the Nigerian Civil War to protect her family from attacks and criticism. In an interview with popular media personality Ebuka Obi Uchendu, Damasus explained that her original surname was Ojukwu, but it was altered due to the turmoil surrounding the war.

She shared that her family made the decision to change their surname to avoid being targeted, particularly after they were attacked in Asaba during the Biafran conflict.

“The name Damasus is actually my granddaughter’s first name, a Greek name. My original surname was Ojukwu, but that changed during the Biafran War when my people were attacked in Asaba because they thought we were connected to the same Ojukwu,” Damasus explained. “I was born into the Damasus name, and when I asked why, that’s what they told me.”

This revelation shocked many of Damasus’ fans, especially those who had assumed her surname was linked to the late Biafran warlord, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu
