President Bola Tinubu is set to address a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Wednesday, May 29. This occasion marks 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria.
According to a statement released by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambawal, the event will also feature the commissioning of the National Assembly Library named in honor of President Tinubu.
Expected attendees at the joint sitting include Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, as well as the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma. Also in attendance will be Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, among others.
Former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, is expected to deliver a talk on “Reflections on the Journey to Democracy.” Additionally, commemorative lectures on “25 Years of the National Assembly: Lessons & Opportunities” will be presented during the joint sitting.
Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who served as the Speaker of the 9th House (2019-2023), will deliver a paper on ‘Reflections on the House’, while Senator David Mark, GCON, the President of the 6th & 7th Senate (2007-2015), will speak on ‘Reflections on the Senate.’
