Former Minister of Defense General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (retd.) inaugurated an ultra-modern mortuary facility at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo on Thursday. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to address long-standing challenges the hospital has faced.
During the commissioning, Danjuma highlighted the importance of a maintenance culture, urging hospital management to keep the facility and its equipment in optimal condition. He stated, “We don’t have a maintenance culture in this country. You have to maintain this facility to serve society better.”
Danjuma’s motivation for the project stemmed from a personal experience involving the poor preservation of a deceased relative. He recounted that after hearing about the mishandling of his personal lawyer’s mother’s body, he directed his engineer to create a proposal using the best preservation technology available.
Despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, he expressed gratitude for the project’s completion, emphasizing its potential to enhance service delivery at the hospital.
Dr. Aisha Adamu, Medical Director of FMC Jalingo, expressed profound appreciation for Danjuma’s generous donation, describing the facility as a “game-changer.” She assured that the hospital management would prioritize its upkeep.
Bordiya Buma, Commissioner for Health in Taraba State, commended Danjuma for his foresight and generosity. He noted that the facility would improve the preservation of deceased bodies and enhance medical research and training in the area.
Buma thanked Danjuma for his continuous support for healthcare development in the state and acknowledged the leadership of Governor Agbu Kefas in driving transformative health projects for the people of Taraba.
