“Warning Against Traffic Light Violations in Abuja: FCTA Director Issues Sanctions Notice”

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to motorists in Abuja against violating traffic lights. Mr. Wadata Bodinga, the Director of Traffic Management at the Transportation Secretariat, FCTA, emphasized that sanctions would be imposed on individuals who flout traffic rules.

While noting a reduction in violations by 80%, Bodinga stressed that beating traffic lights remains a concern in the city. He revealed an ongoing upgrade of traffic lights to capture data at all junctions in real-time, enabling the identification and recording of traffic violators. Once completed, the system will transmit vehicle details to the Traffic Light Control Centre.

Bodinga emphasized the consequences for offenders, mentioning potential fines during vehicle paper renewal. The FCTA aims to enhance safety and security for motorists, highlighting efforts to ensure functional traffic lights across the city. Challenges such as battery theft from traffic lights are being addressed, and residents are encouraged to report any tampering with the lights to security agencies.
