859,480 Pupils To Be Fed Daily In Niger

Over N1.2 billion has been earmarked for 859,480 pupils in public schools in Niger state in the federal government school feeding programme.

The School feeding Project Manager, Attahiru Musa Abubakar who disclosed this in Minna during training for cooks who will be engaged for the project said that the project is expected to commence on the 25th of September in all public schools across the state.

According to him, N70 will be spent on a child daily adding that the pupils would be fed once a day in a bid to improve the nutritional value of the children.

Abubakar also said that 7,170 vendors applied for the project while 3,000 public schools across the state have been earmarked to be beneficiaries.

He stated that adequate monitoring and evaluation team would be involved in the project to ensure that the vendors comply with the instructions given to them and to ensure that the pupils are not underfed.

Giving a breakdown of the meal to be fed to the children, the Project Manager said that the pupils will have noodles and egg on Monday, rice and beans on Tuesday, beans porridge and bread in Wednesday, rice on Thursday and Friday.
