Court remands Police officer for alleged shooting of 32 year-old man in Ekiti

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday ordered the remand of a Police officer, Tizhe Goji, 38, in Correctional Centre over alleged murder.

Our correspondent reports that the Police Prosecutor , Insp. Caleb Leranmo told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on Nov. 21 at Queen’s Court in Ado-Ekiti. Leranmo alleged that the defendant, being a police officer carrying a rifle and serving in Ekiti, on the said date, unlawfully murdered one Abayomi Olaoye, 32, by shooting him with a gun at a drinking joint.

According to him, the offence is punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.The prosecutor claimed that he had submitted a duplicate of the case file to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP, for  legal advice. The accused however, did not take plea as his counsel, Mr Ola Abiola sought for a short adjournment pending the outcome of the advice from the DPP. Chief Magistrate Abdulhamid  Lawal consequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in Correctional Centre pending the legal advice from the DPP.

He adjourned the case to Dec. 17 for further hearing.
