A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Thursday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Kehinde Bangbose to one year in prison, for trafficking in banned drugs.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo sentenced Bangbose after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on trafficking of Hemp, Tramadol and Rophynol.
Oweibo found the defendant guilty of the offences as charged and accordingly convicted him.
He sentenced him to a term of one year imprisonment commencing from the date of his arrest.
Earlie, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, said that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 8, in Lagos.
Aernan said that the defendant was arrested after a tip – off, at Cele area of Ikorodu.
“He was caught engaging in an unlawful deal of hemp weighing 750g, 11.0g of Rophynol and 29.8g of Tramadol,” the prosecutor said.
Aernan said the listed drugs were classified in the NDLEA schedule as banned substances similar to Cocaine and Heroine LSD, which are all prohibited by law.
Reviewing the facts of the case, the prosecutor tendered some documents which included written statement of the defendant, a drug analysis form, a request for scientific aid form and the drugs.
The court admitted the evidence and marked them as exhibits.
Aernan then urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant based on his plea and evidence provided.
He said that the offences contravened Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004.
