Kwara state Police Command has nabbed a suspected kidnapper, Alhaji Adamu Bawa and one Jamiu Sulaiman who was alleged to have murdered his friend, Baba Oyin. Also in police net were 16 others for alleged rioting and matcheting a policeman on duty in Ilorin, the state capital.

Parading the suspects on Wednesday in Ilorin, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, said all those arrested committed the alleged crimes in different parts of the country.

According to the CP, the suspected kidnapper, Adamu Alhaji Bawa, was an indigene of Katsina state who reportedly ran to Kwara state for cover after he had committed the crime.

Mr Egbetokun explained that the suspect that murdered his friend, Baba Oyin, also committed the alleged crime in Lagos and relocated to Kwara state.

He disclosed that the other 16 suspects, who were alleged land grabbers, were arrested at Egbejila in Ilorin West local government area of the state where they were caught matcheting their victims and dispossessing them of their valuables.

The Police Boss said the suspects while on rampage also matcheted a policeman who was in the area to discharge his lawful duty.

Mr Egetokun maintained that all the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as investigations are completed.

While being interviewed by journalists, the suspected kidnapper, Adamu Alhaji Bawa, an indigene of Katsina state, denied the allegation of kidnapping levelled against him.

He said his parents had since relocated from Katsina to Kwara state, and that he was arrested in Tsaragi area of the state after attending the village market where he went to purchase food items for his family.

He urged the police authority to closely check the facts of his case and ensure that justice is done, praying that he be released to go and take care of his ailing mother.
