FRSC warns Jos heavy duty trucks drivers against wrong parking

The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Plateau Sector Command, has warned drivers of heavy duty vehicles against improper parking on the highways in Jos Metropolis.

The Acting Sector Commander, Deputy Corps Commander Ibrahim Sadiq, gave the warning in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday in Jos.

Sadiq said the command would impound vehicles that were wrongly parked and the offenders would pay heavy fines.

He said the indiscriminate parking of the articulated vehicles was making the roads unsafe for other road users.

He said the command would not tolerate any act that could endanger the lives of road users because of reckless parking.

The acting sector commander said the organisation was working with heavy duty truck owners and other stakeholders to bring sanity to the roads.

“We have gone a long way in sanitising the road, especially around the Dadin Kowa axis.

“In as much as there is no garage for parking heavy duty trucks, if you want to park by the road, your parking must align with the traffic management strategies,” he said.

He said the command had organised a sensitisation programme for the truck drivers, the owners and other stakeholders on the dangers of indiscriminate parking on the highways.

“The synergy and collaboration between FRSC, truck owners and the union body at Dadin Kowa have worked a lot as they are now careful about the way and manner that they are parking in the area,” Sadiq said.

He further said that the command was also working with the management of Coca Cola company to manage the rate of parking along the road.

He said that through the collaborative efforts, road signs had been put in place to help car owners to be cautious.

The acting commander added that the command was in constant contact with the management to apprehend those that may disobey the order of parking.

He called on the State Government to provide designated areas for trucks to park.
