Kwara Assembly worried by dearth of teachers in rural schools

Kwara State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Education and Human Capital Development to investigate alleged non existence of teachers in rural schools in the state and poor state of physical infrastructure in such schools.

The Speaker, Hon Yakubu Danladi Salihu gave the directive after deliberations on a Matter of General Public Importance raised at plenary by member representing Omupo Constituency, Hon Ganiyu Folabi Salahu.

Urging the state government to work out modalities towards reviving rural schools in the state, Hon Salihu prayed the House to direct the State Universal Basic Education Board to order the Local Government Education Authority Secretaries to revert to the last posting of teachers for the benefit of the students in schools in the rural areas.

The Speaker, in his remarks, pointed out that the matter of poor state of schools in rural areas and inadequate number of teachers affects most local government areas in the state.

Some of the members who spoke on the matter expressed concern over the poor state of schools in rural areas as well as dearth of teachers in the schools, advocating synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government so as to enhance development of the education sector in the state.

The Honourable members who contributed to the motion included Hon. Adetiba-Olanrewaju Raphael (Oke-Ero), Hon. Abdullah Danbaba H.(Kaima/Kamanji/Wajibe), Hon. Saheed Popoola (Ojomu/Balogun) and Hon. Awodiji Omotayo Felix (Irepodun).

Others were Hon.Abolarin Ganiyu (Ekiti), Hon. Awolola Olumide (Isin), Hon. Abdulgafar Olayemi A (Ilorin North/West) and Hon. John Bello O (Lanwa/Ejidongari).
