The Kwara state government has concluded arrangenents to introduce Synergy’s Education Management System in all schools and tertiary institutions across the state.
The project, when fully implemented, would provide results and allow for effective monitoring of education programmes towards enabling delivery of high quality education in a timely and cost effective manner.
The State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development , Alhaja Bilikisu Oniyangi, disclosed this in Ilorin, the state capital, while answering questions on a Radio Kwara personality interview programme “Playing Host”.
According to her, with this device, every teacher across the state would be monitored directly from her office at the headquarters of the Ministry. Similarly, she said the salary each teacher earns and deductions made on monthly basis would be ascertained and corrected where errors are detected, students enrolment would be monitored while the issue of miracle centers would become a thing of the past in the state.
Alhaja Oniyangi, who disclosed that an incentive of one hundred thousand dollars has been set aside by the World Bank through the Federal Ministry of Education for states that embark on the project, said that Kwara state is leading in this direction.
The commissioner therefore appealed to the incoming government to key into the project to ensure its full implementation and actualisation, adding that the government is articulated in its school programmes as it operates six-three-three-four-one system of education which is primary, junior secondary, senior secondary, the higher institution and pre-nursery and nursery .
According to her, the International Vocational Technical and Entrepreneurship College, Ajasse, Ipo (IVTEC) project which is in collaboration with the state government would soon hit the ground running as it is not a must for students to go to the university before he or should makes it in life as they could go for entrepreneurship skills.
Alhaja Oniyangi said one of her greatest achievements within her short stay in office is that she was able to instill discipline into the education sector, thanking Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed who gave her free hand to positively reposition the education sector while she learnt a lot from the civil servants in her ministry
.
The commissioner stated that the education sector comprised a lot of challenges that involved all stakeholders from the government, parents and teachers but said the greatest challenges lie with the parents and the teachers.
