Three hundred ex-militants and youths in Bayelsa State have been trained on a one week entrepreneurship course under the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, of the federal government.
Addressing the youths during the presentation of certificates at closing ceremony of the training programme in Yenagoa, the facilitator of the one week programme and Chief Executive Officer of Sammechsol Nigeria LTD, Pastor Samson Dabby, said the essence of the training was to tutor the ex-militants and youths on how to manage the empowerment incentives that would be provided to the them.
“The Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, has come out with several things before now, they have given money, send youths abroad for training and education, however, when they come back, nothing is happening, so the present Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, Prof Charles Dokubo, said no, let us empower them with starter packs with equipment related to their field they have been trained previously.
“For others, a business shop will be set up and registered with Corporate Affairs Commission for them to start to a business. We want to teach them how to manage their businesses and those that will do well under three months will be recommended to the Bank of Agriculture so they can benefit from further empowerment initiatives.
“Some of the youths would be given tricycles popular known as Keke Napep for them to use to eke out a living because we have discovered that most of our youths are idling away and tricycle operations is a sure way of making good money. We will teach them the essence of savings so that they can maintain the tricycles and also make money for themselves.
“This is just a training on entrepreneurship and after that we are going to empower them with tricycles as well as welding and fabrication equipment depending on their choice and specialization.” he explained.
