The 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has made a significant discovery by uncovering an illegal gun factory in Onicha Olona community, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. The factory, capable of producing ten guns per week, was dismantled during the operation.
Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, the Commander of the 63 Brigade, disclosed that among the eight suspects arrested were the mastermind of the operation, his father, mother, and sister. The illegal arms factory, located in a forest, had a surveillance post, a generator connected from a remote location, an oven for melting iron, and a cache of arms and ammunition.
The items recovered from the factory included materials for manufacturing improvised explosive devices (IEDs), such as shrapnels, detonators, and containers. The commander emphasized that the suspects’ activities were a major contributor to insecurity in the region and the country.
The prime suspect, 22-year-old Emmanuel Eboka, admitted to renting some of the arms to criminal elements for a fee. Brigadier General Unachukwu warned that anyone involved in acts of insurgency against the peace and stability of Nigeria would be apprehended.
The illegal gun factory discovery comes as part of ongoing efforts by security forces to combat criminal activities and enhance national security.
