“Benue PDP questions Governor Alia’s contract awards.”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has voiced concerns over Governor Hyacinth Alia’s contract decisions, accusing him of sidelining constitutional guidelines. The party’s spokesperson, Bemgba Iortyom, described the governor’s leadership as reminiscent of a dictatorship, highlighting contracts awarded without transparency and the governor’s failure to appoint a cabinet within the constitutionally stipulated timeframe.

Iortyom also pointed out the governor’s unilateral control over the state’s financial accounts and cited specific instances where he believes Alia has violated both the Nigerian Constitution and Benue State financial directives.

On Monday, Governor Alia launched the construction of roads in Makurdi, costing around N6bn, according to the Technical Committee on Infrastructure. The Committee assured of the projects’ quality and adherence to the 11-month timeline.

However, when approached for comments, the governor’s spokesperson, Tersoo Kula, remained silent on the issue.
