More than 770 million of China’s rural population living below the current poverty line have been raised from poverty.
This was contained in a recent report released by the State Council Information Office of China, the figure represents 70 percent of the global total numbers of people living in poverty according to the World Bank’s international poverty standard.
At a press conference in China to mark the launch of the white paper titled “Poverty Alleviation: China’s Experience and Contribution,” Xu Lin, who is the deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and minister of the State Council Information Office, said, the country had embarked on a path of poverty alleviation and designed an approach with Chinese characteristics, which will offers enlightenment to the international community in its effort to reduce poverty.
China’s fight against poverty entered a critical stage after the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, and have achieved the goal of eliminating extreme poverty as at the end of the year 2020.
The report further stated that 98.99 million people in rural areas who were living below the current poverty are now out of poverty while 128,000 impoverished villages and 832 designated poor counties are now out of poor living standard.
More villages and rural households in the country is expected to be covered by public infrastructure facilities, and roads will be built for better development of industries.
China will also improve public service in rural areas and enhance rural governance, so as to bring more changes to its citizens.
