Bello Bodejo, the embattled President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has firmly denied any accusations linking Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State to his ongoing legal troubles. Represented by his attorney, Mohammed Sherif, Bodejo, currently in detention, clarified that he has not issued any official statements while under custody at the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
Sherif addressed this matter through a press release distributed to journalists in Abuja, responding to a publication titled “How Nasarawa gov pressurised me to establish militia group, Miyetti Allah leader tells investigators,” which alleged that Bodejo had accused Governor Sule of being involved in the formation of the ethnic militia group, Kungiya Zaman Lafiya.
Reportedly, Bodejo, facing three counts of terrorism, claimed in his confession that the governor coerced him into establishing the militia organization. However, these allegations were vehemently refuted in the statement issued by Bodejo’s legal team, dismissing the publication as unreliable and urging the public to disregard it.
Sherif emphasized that they have been in regular communication with Bodejo during his detention and can confirm that he has not provided significant information to the agency. Expressing shock at the source of the alleged statement, Sherif stressed the importance of a fair and unbiased approach to the matter, ensuring all relevant facts are carefully examined and legal procedures diligently followed.
Amidst the ongoing legal proceedings, Sherif called on the public to refrain from making comments that could influence the case or misrepresent the facts, emphasizing that the matter is sub judice. Bodejo, apprehended in Malia, Nasarawa State, in January and held by the DIA, appeared before Justice Ekwo on March 22, facing charges related to forming an armed militia in violation of Nigeria’s constitution and the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
Having pleaded not guilty to all charges, Bodejo’s trial is scheduled for May 27 to May 30.
