By Milcah Tanimu

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of betrayal, stating that Obaseki, who initially pledged to fight godfatherism, is now playing the role of a political godfather in the state. Shaibu, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Edo, revealed that Obaseki had previously commended him as the best deputy governor on multiple occasions.

In a statement by his media aide, Ebomhiana Musa, Shaibu expressed disappointment in Obaseki, claiming that they had collectively vowed to combat godfatherism in the state. He asserted that Obaseki is going against their agreement and accused the governor of considering another aspirant for the next gubernatorial term, despite Shaibu’s substantial support for Obaseki’s reelection bid. The deputy governor emphasized his commitment to fighting oppression and highlighted the personal sacrifices he made to back Obaseki’s political journey.
