The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has leveled accusations against Hadi Sirika, former Minister of Aviation, linking him to contract irregularities concerning his daughter, son-in-law, and associates in connection with the Nigeria Air project.
Sirika stands accused of channeling public funds into accounts and companies connected to his family members and close associates, manipulating the awarding of contracts for consultancy services and airport construction projects.
This indictment comes as part of the EFCC’s ongoing investigation into allegations of financial misconduct within the aviation ministry. Previously, Sirika’s brother was arrested on similar charges related to contract fraud.
The EFCC’s move to prosecute Sirika reflects its commitment to upholding accountability and transparency in public office. Sirika, who served as Minister of Aviation from August 2019 to May 2023, now faces legal proceedings over alleged breaches of trust and misuse of his official position.
The charges brought against Sirika and his associates detail instances of alleged misconduct, including the awarding of contracts to companies associated with his family members, totaling billions of naira.
While these accusations cast a shadow over Sirika’s tenure as minister, it’s important to note that every accused individual is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The EFCC’s actions underscore the seriousness with which financial crimes are pursued and prosecuted in Nigeria.
