The Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers is actively promoting the adoption of liquefied gas as a means to create a more sustainable environment in Nigeria.
During a recent business luncheon with a focus on refilling plants, industry experts highlighted the advantages of using liquefied gas, particularly in the reduction of gas flaring and its negative impact on the environment.
Akintayo Akintola, former Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch, emphasized that by eliminating gas flaring and converting the flared gas into a valuable resource, Nigeria can achieve a safer and cleaner environment while generating sustainable revenue.
The CEO of Foks JV Nigeria Limited, Anslem Olawoye, further explained that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is a hydrocarbon fuel mixture of propane and butane, which, when burned in the presence of air, produces heat energy for various everyday activities. LPG is a non-renewable fossil fuel derived from the decomposition of plants and animal remains over millions of years.
Olawoye also highlighted the versatility of LPG, mentioning its potential as a vehicle fuel. He emphasized that LPG is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly, as it burns cleanly without producing smoke or leaving residue. In Nigeria, where the cost of traditional fuels like petrol and diesel is high, LPG can serve as a viable alternative.
The promotion of liquefied gas adoption by the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers aims to foster a more sustainable and environmentally conscious approach to energy use in the country.
