A 26-year-old man, Usman Bube, has been apprehended for allegedly attempting to rape his neighbor’s pregnant wife in the Ogatalo Fulani Camp, situated in the Imala area of Ogun State.

According to sources within the police department, the incident unfolded around 12:45 pm on Thursday when the suspect purportedly forcibly entered his neighbor’s residence to carry out the heinous act.

The victim’s husband, Muhammed Awwalu, was reported to be away from the community at the time, leaving his pregnant wife alone in their home. Seizing the opportunity, the suspect unlawfully entered the apartment and found the woman asleep.

Despite multiple unsuccessful attempts to engage in sexual assault, the suspect resorted to violence, brandishing a knife in an effort to subdue the woman and prevent her from raising an alarm.

As the pregnant woman screamed for help, the suspect inflicted a cut on her left hand before neighbors intervened and rescued her from further harm.

Confirming the incident, Odutola Omolola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, stated via WhatsApp that Bube had been placed in protective custody pending further investigation. The survivor, meanwhile, was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention to treat her injuries.

This incident echoes a similar case from September 28, 2023, when Godstime Ekanemin was arrested for breaking into the home of Mrs. Jelila Oyinbo, attempting to rape her despite her repeated refusals and warnings. The attempted assault occurred in the Mowe/Ofada area of the Obafemi/Owode local government in the state.
