Ndume Reveals 10 Senators Allegedly Receiving Over N200 Million Each from 2024 Budget for Constituency Projects
Senate Chief Whip, Ali Ndume, has responded to the ongoing controversy surrounding the allocation of funds to lawmakers for constituency projects, amidst allegations that some senators received over N500 million each from the 2024 budget.
The revelation came during a session in Abuja where Senator Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe from Cross River North disclosed the purported allocation discrepancies, sparking debates on budget padding claims by Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central Senatorial District.
In an interview with ChannelsTV, Ndume disclosed that he and other leaders of the 10th Senate allegedly received more than the N200 million allocated to his colleagues and floor members for constituency projects in the 2024 budget.
“My colleagues know that I receive more than them. All the senators have N200 million each for their constituency projects, but as a leader, I receive more. That’s the difference,” Ndume asserted.
He further outlined the current leaders of the 10th Senate, including both majority and minority leaders, indicating that they allegedly received more substantial allocations.
Responding to questions about the veracity of Agom-Jarigbe’s claims, Ndume justified the alleged disparity, stating, “All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others. That’s the case here. They have agreed to it.”
Ndume elaborated on the decision-making process, mentioning that while all senators receive N200 million each for constituency projects, leaders allegedly receive additional funds. He attributed this decision to the senate budget committee, which entrusted the allocation to the presiding officers.
The revelation has stirred further discussions on transparency and equity in budget allocations among lawmakers, prompting calls for greater accountability in the distribution of public funds.
