In a significant advancement in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, troops of the Nigerian Army have uncovered and neutralized a major firearms and drone manufacturing factory operated by armed fighters affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militia wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The operation took place in Onicha Ulona, located in the Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Intelligence-led efforts led to the discovery of the illegal factory, which was being utilized by the dissidents to perpetrate criminal activities aimed at terrorizing neighboring communities and innocent citizens. Despite facing stiff resistance upon their arrival, the troops engaged in a fierce firefight and successfully overpowered the armed fighters. During the operation, two of the fighters were neutralized, and a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.
The seized items include various firearms associated with IPOB/ESN, ammunition, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and equipment for manufacturing drones. Additionally, the troops discovered a range of weapons, drones under construction, prototype models, materials for improvised explosive devices, a fully equipped workshop, and several power generators. Furthermore, four male and two female fighters were apprehended during the operation.
The Nigerian Army reaffirms its unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist and insurgent networks as part of its efforts to address security challenges in the nation.
