Wayne Rooney, the former English football player and manager of Birmingham City, has responded to his recent dismissal by expressing his belief that he deserved more time to bring about necessary changes at the club. The announcement of Rooney’s sacking came from Birmingham City’s official website, citing the decision as a response to his failure to meet performance expectations.
Rooney, in his reaction to the sacking, acknowledged the results-oriented nature of football but emphasized that the 13 weeks he had as the manager were insufficient to implement the required transformations. In a statement released on his X account after the confirmation of his departure, Rooney thanked Tom Wagner, Tom Brady, and Garry Cook for the opportunity to manage Birmingham City FC and the support they provided during his brief tenure.
Despite the setback, Rooney expressed that it will take some time for him to overcome the disappointment. Having been involved in professional football since the age of 16, he plans to spend some quality time with his family as he prepares for the next managerial opportunity in his journey.
Rooney, appointed as Birmingham manager on October 11, was the first managerial selection by the new owner, Tom Wagner, and his Knighthead Capital Management Group. However, the team’s performance under Rooney witnessed nine losses in the 15 matches played since his appointment, placing Birmingham City in the 20th position on the Championship table.
