The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu -Gambari CFR has reiterated that the yearly grand Durbar celebration in Ilorin, the state capital, is meant to reinvigorate the culture and tradition of the people of Ilorin Emirate, among other things.

According to him, Durbar as well as other activities would further reunite the citizens of the Emirate, irrespective of their differences while it would also give the people, particularly those in Diaspora, the urge to come home and fraternise with their kinsmen.

The Emir expressed these views at his Palace while receiving the Committee Report of the 2021 Ilorin Emirate Durbar, led by its Chairman, Engineer Suleiman Yahaya Alapansapa.

Alhaji Sulu Gambari, who commended members of the Durbar Committee for making him proud before, during and after the event, expressed satisfaction with the way and manner the event was organised devoid of rancour.

The monarch urged the Committee to commence early preparations for the 2022 Durbar event, while also and enjoining them to set aside funds for the setting up of an Islamic museum in the palace where research work can be carried out.

He appealed to the youths in the Emirate to shun all social vices and imbibe “the culture that is being revived by the Durbar Committee so as to make them responsible citizens that would be recognised nationally and globally like the Late Babatunde Idiagbon, late Justice Mustapha Akanbi and the incumbent Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.”

The Emir appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the people of the state, traditional title holders in Ilorin Emirate, those that donated handsomely to the success of the event and the entire sons and daughters of the Emirate for ensuring a hitch free programme.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Engineer Alapansapa, who is the Danmasani of Ilorin, praised the Emir for his support to the Committee, stressing that it was what gingered members to work round the clock for the success recorded.

He assured the Emir that work would commence early for next year’s Durbar and described the support he received from members, sons and daughters of the Emirate as very encouraging.

The Danmasani expressed the appreciation of all the nine citizens of the Emirate that were given titles by the Emir and described their titles as unique, befitting and well thought out by the monarch.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
