The Kwara government has called on the people of the state to desist from panicking over COVID-19 and adhere to the preventive measures of social distancing, hand washing and personal hygiene.
The state Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, made the call while inspecting the State Infectious Diseases Treatment Centre in Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin on Tuesday.

While he acknowledged concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, Alabi emphasised the need to curb the deadly disease by intensifying public awareness.
The deputy governor was also at the ongoing training for health workers at the Kwara State Agro Mall, Ilorin.
Speaking on the occasion , Dr Ahmed Abubakar, an Infection Prevention and Control expert, described the training as “a necessity” in view of the current global pandemic.
He expressed hope that the state will escape the COVID-19 outbreak and assured the deputy governor that the training would prepare health workers to deal with such an eventuality.
Abubakar lauded the government for its prompt action and support for the state’s health sector.
He said that highlight of the training was the practical session and stimulation on donning and doffing of personal protective equipment.
The deputy governor was accompanied by top government functionaries including the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Raji Razaq, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Ahman-Patigi and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Prof. AbdulRafiu Suleiman.
