I stand by my claim on printing of N60bn, Obaseki tells FG
Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki said, he stands by his clam that the sum of N60 billion naira was printed to support March allocation, adding that he will not join words with the Federal Government over the issue.
Obaseki had lamented the financial state of the nation, stating Nigeria is in financial trouble.
The governor while speaking at the Edo state transition committee stakeholder’s engagement over the weekend, he said, the Federal Government printed money to bridge FAAC allocation.
He said, “When we got FAAC for March, the federal government printed additional N50-N60 billion to top-up for us to share,” he had said.
This newspaper had reported on Wednesday that the minister for Finance, Budget and physical planning Zainab Shamsuna Ahmed countered Obaseki’s claim as ‘’untrue’’.
Reacting to the counter-reaction on Thursday, Obaseki, through his official twitter handle, said: “We believe it is our duty to offer useful advice for the benefit of our country.
The statement read, “The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, @ZShamsuna should rally Nigerians to stem the obvious fiscal slide facing our country.
“Rather than play the Ostrich, we urge the government to take urgent steps to end the current monetary rascality so as to prevent the prevailing economic challenge from degenerating further.
“We believe it is imperative to approach the Nigerian project with all sense of responsibility and commitment and not play to the gallery because ultimately time shall be the judge of us all.” he said.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
