Lagos LG poll: Action Alliance conducts primaries
The Action Alliance (AA) in Lagos State on Wednesday conducted its primary election to choose its chairmanship and councillorship flag-bearers in the forthcoming Local Government Election in the state.
The Chairperson of the party, Chief Adeyemi Abiola, told Our correspondent at the end of the exercise that the party would contest only 11 seats in the July 24 poll.
“We are contesting 11 seats in all, which comprise one chairmanship seat and 10 councillorship seats.
“We are contesting the Igando- Ikotun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) chairmanship seat and 10 councillorship seats across three LCDAs which comprise Igando-Ikotun, Lagos Island and Olorunda LCDAs.
“In Igando-Ikotun LCDA, we are contesting in Wards A, B, C, D, E, F and G; in Lagos Island, we are contesting only in Ward F and G, while in Olorunda LCDA, we are contesting only in Ward E,” Abiola said.
According to her, the candidates emerged unopposed and there are four women among the councillorship contestants on the platform of the party.
“The Lagos residents should expect a better future if they vote for our party in the forthcoming election.
“In this party, we value masses a lot and we appreciate people and their opinions. There is no `god-fatherism’ in this party.”
The sole chairmanship candidate of the party, Rev. Bola Omokorede, said that the plights of the poor masses and unemployed youths prompted him to contest the top council seat.
Omokorede, who noted that a lot could be done at the grassroots to alleviate the sufferings of the masses, said that if the electorate entrusted him with their mandates, efforts would be made to better their Iives.
One of the candidates vying for Igando-Ikotun LCDA Ward A Councillorship seat, Mr Sunday Ogunnubi, told Our correspondent that if voted for, the masses would be prioritised in all policies and programmes.
Ogunnubi, who urged the youths to support his ambition, said that the progress and prosperity of the council depended on the youths.
“We are not fake people. We are not going there just to make noise. We want to work for the masses,” the candidate said.
Another councillor ship candidate for Ward E in the same LCDA, Mrs Kaburat Rabiu told Our correspondent that, if elected, the empowerment of women and vulnerable groups would be her top prioroty.
Also, Mr Ademola Adegoke, a Councillorship Candidate in Ward D of the same LCDA, said that he was moved to contest because of the youth and the plights of the masses.
Our correspondent reports that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had rolled out timetable and guidelines to conduct election into the 20 Local Governments and 37 LCDAs in the state on July 24 .

London Property Dispute Exposes Alleged Corruption, Forgery by Nigerian Politician and Lawyer

A recent judgment by the UK’s First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) has shed light on a complex web of alleged corruption and forgery involving a Nigerian politician and a senior lawyer. The case revolves around a disputed property in North London, valued at 79 Randall Avenue.
The property was purchased in 1993 under the name “Tali Shani,” which is allegedly an alias for late General Jeremiah Useni, a powerful member of the Abacha regime. Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, claimed the property was gifted to him by “Mr. Tali Shani” in 2021 as payment for legal services. However, the tribunal dismissed this claim, describing it as “fabricated” and “fraudulent.”
The tribunal’s ruling highlights the alleged involvement of Ozekhome and his associates in fabricating documents, including a Nigerian passport, National Identification Number (NIN), and Tax Identification Number (TIN). The NIN was reportedly created remotely from Monaco using a non-compliant photograph and bypassing biometric requirements ¹.
The Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA Resource Centre) has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate Ozekhome and others over alleged fraud, forgery, and unlawful attempt to acquire the London property. The ICPC has launched an investigation, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has also taken notice of the case ²

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has resigned from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet amid a growing controversy surrounding his academic credentials.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed Nnaji’s resignation in a statement issued late Tuesday.
Nnaji’s exit follows mounting allegations that his academic certificates were forged. Investigations revealed that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), disowned the Bachelor of Science degree he claimed to possess, stating that he never completed his studies at the institution and was therefore not issued any certificate.
According to UNN Vice-Chancellor Prof. Simon U. Ortuanya, Nnaji was admitted in 1981 but failed to meet the requirements for graduation.
In a related development, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) reportedly disowned the certificate of national service presented by Nnaji, describing it as fake.
His resignation marks the latest in a series of controversies to hit the Tinubu administration over questions of integrity and accountability among public officials.
