Delta FRSC begins CBT for new driver’s licence applicants
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced Computer Based Test (CBT) for graduating applicants from driving schools for issuance of driver’s licence.
FRSC Sector Commander in Delta State, Mr Patrick Okoyeocha, said this in a statement on Friday in Asaba.
Okoyeocha said the new policy became imperative following the successful transition of the FRSC Driving School Standardisation Programme (DSSP) portal from version 1.0 to version 2.0.
According to him, it has become necessary for the Corps to enlighten the public on this upgrade as it has a larger capacity to accommodate motorcycles, tricycles and articulated vehicles.
“More spectacular to this upgrade is the CBT. It is important for the general public to know that the CBT was introduced to enhance the integrity of the National Driver’s Licence.
“It is also to check the unwholesome practices by some driving schools that issue certificates by proxy, without conducting adequate training of applicants.
“CBT is also to align with global best practices on driver’s education and the need to tackle the high level of road traffic crashes resulting from human error which contributes more than 75 per cent road traffic crash related cases in Nigeria.
“The CBT test came into effect on the June 1, after a successful trial (pilot scheme) from May 6 to 30 and so far the CBT has recorded 80 per cent success in all registered driving schools across the nation,” he said.
Okoyeocha said that applicants were expected to complete 25 intensive training sessions of theory and practical driving.
“At the end of the 25th session, a 30 multiple choice questions is expected to be answered in 30 minutes, after completion, a candidate’s score is displayed and transferred to the DSSP portal for processing of certificates.
“Successful candidate with the pass mark 60 per cent and above can now apply for National Driver’s Licence using his Driving School Certificates.
“A candidate who fails the CBT is requested to re-sit after seven days and the exact date of the re-sit will automatically be generated by the CBT application.
“The essence is to ensure integrity of driver’s licence process and ultimately to produce drivers who are well trained that will ensure reduction of carnage on our highways,” he added.
Armed bandits have abducted 30 people during an attack on Zamfarawa village in Zugu District, Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Zagazola Makama report that the attack occurred on Oct. 7 at about 2:20 p.m., when a large number of bandits stormed the community, shooting sporadically to scare residents.
The hoodlums were said to have whisked away 30 villagers to an unknown destination.
Following the incident, security forces have intensified efforts to trace and rescue the abducted victims.
The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two armed bandits during an exchange of fire with security operatives in Mada District, Gusau Local Government Area.
According to sources, the operation followed credible intelligence about an imminent bandit attack on villages within the Mada area.
The sources stated that at about 3:10 a.m. on Oct. 7, a joint team of police tactical operatives, community protection guards (CPG), and local hunters were deployed to Fegin Mahe village, where they laid an ambush along the suspected route of the bandits.
Three bandits were said to have approached the location and were immediately engaged in a gun battle by the security team.
Two of the bandits were killed during the encounter, while the third escaped with possible gunshot injuries.
The police said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.
Three suspected kidnappers have been killed by a mob in Emu Orakwan community, Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Sources said that the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Oct. 6, when hunters and farmers in the area sighted the suspects at Akabueze camp.
The suspects were said to be among those who allegedly murdered a woman identified as Mrs. Ogbona on Oct. 1.
It was gathered that upon receiving the information, villagers and farmers mobilised and descended on the suspects, inflicting severe injuries on them before the arrival of security operatives.
Army troops accompanied by police personnel, moved swiftly to the scene and met the suspects at the point of death.
They were immediately taken to the General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.
Their remains have been deposited at Imiuwuguina Mortuary, while investigation into the incident is ongoing.
