Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja sets to hold her 3rd General Assembly 22 – 24 September

The Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja has scheduled 22nd – 24th September, 2022 for her 3rd Abuja Archdiocesan General Assembly.

The General Assembly is an annual event which brings together, the people of God of Abuja Archdiocese (clerics, consecrated persons and laity) to give thanks to God for the work of evangelization in our Archdiocese but more so to discuss matters of interest and serious concerns to the growth of the Archdiocese.

The Abuja Archdiocesan General Assembly (AAGA), themed “Witness in Politics: The Role of the Catholic Faithful”, is to be convened by the Chief Shepherd of the Archdiocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama and hosted by the Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja, His Lordship, Most Rev Anselm Umoren.

It is worthy to note that the event which would take place at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria (OLQN), Pro – Cathedral, Garki Abuja on is strictly by delegation while the opening Mass/ceremony on Thursday, 22nd September at 10.00am and closing Mass on Saturday, 24th September at 10.00am are opened to the general public.

The opening ceremony would be chaired by the Former Governor of River State, Sir Celestine N Omehia and co-chaired by wife of the Deputy Governor of Nassarawa State, Mrs Shellac Tosan Akabe.

Special Guests of Honour for the ceremony includes the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, His Excellency, Most Rev. Antoni Filipazzi, Deputy Governor of Nassarawa State, His Excellency, Dr Emmanuel Akabe and the President, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh.

Guest Speakers of the event are Dr Chijioke Ugwuoke, Senator Ikechukwu Obiorah, Dr John Ayuba, Honourable Christopher Ashibuogu, Rev. Fr George Ehusani and others.

Pius Akutah’s Alleged Fraud at Nigerian Shippers Council Uncovered

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
