Tinubu Urges African Union Forum to Stand Against a New Scramble for Africa
In his speech at the Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union in Nairobi, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria emphasized the strength and unity of Africa. He stated that Africa’s leaders are no longer passive and are actively working to harness the continent’s vast resources for the betterment of their respective countries.
President Tinubu rejected the notion of a new scramble for Africa, referring to historical exploitation of the continent. He called for good governance and emphasized the need to overcome challenges and work towards a prosperous future. Tinubu highlighted the importance of inclusive growth, good governance, and leveraging the opportunities provided by the African Continental Free Trade Area.
President Tinubu also spoke about the importance of upholding democracy in West Africa. As the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), he announced plans to strengthen the bloc’s Standby Force to deter coups and combat terrorism in the sub-region. He stressed that addressing instability and conflict in African states is essential for implementing the outcomes of economic discussions.
Overall, President Tinubu’s speech emphasized Africa’s determination to move forward, overcome challenges, and ensure a prosperous future, while rejecting any exploitation or setbacks that plagued the continent in the past.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
