Declaring the training open, the FCT Coordinator, Mr Ahmadu Zegi said, the training was initiated to teach farmers smart agricultural practices to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on crops production.

Zegi said that the training was not only timely but also very imperative considering the recent declaration of state of emergency on food security by the Presidency, there’s need for all hands to be on deck to ensure food sufficiency in the country.

“The federal government has declared a state of emergency on food security. That is to tell you that every body needs to be up and doing and all hands must be on deck to ensure that we produce food not just to eat, produce appropriate quantity of food that will give us the appropriate nutrients but have surplus to even export, he said”.

He urged the participants to hold this opportunity very dear because not everybody has this opportunity, and congratulated them.

In his remarks, the Head of Extension FCT Agricultural Development Project ADP, Dr. Omole Olateju who represented the Director FCT ADP Mr Innocent Ajaefobi during the training said, the training of 50 farmers on climate resilient practices will boost their productivity in cowpea value changes.

According to him, the Agency have designed a platform to really ensure that this knowledge that has been transferred to the participant is followed up, monitored to ensure proper implementation.

“Like in fct, we have divided the whole of the territory into extension cells. And so we didn’t just pick participants anyhow, we selected them from each extension formation across the territory, so that they could be instrumental to the effective dissemination of this knowledge which has been transferred to participants and give us feedback so that we can monitor progress.

Speaking, Mrs Obiageli Nwabuisi, the Federal Department of Agriculture Extension under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture commended the ministry for initiating such a programme in the Federal Capital Territory, adding that the knowledge acquired by the farmers would go along way to boost production and yields.

She said, federal government is trying to see that all the main value chains are touched. “We’re still talking about climate resilience, but this time around, they’ll teach them climate smarts approaches, resilient approaches to help them with cowpea production, saying the resource person is a seasoned agronomist.

She encouraged the participants to take this training seriously as they have been selected from the six area councils. They should count it a privilege and take this training seriously so that when they are done here, everything that they have learned, every detail, they will go back and step it down to the farmers in their communities, she informed.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
