“President Biden Approves Border Wall Construction Amid Rising Crossings in Mexico”

In an unexpected move, President Joe Biden has given the green light for the construction of a section of border wall in southern Texas as a response to the increasing levels of immigration along the US-Mexico border.

Approximately 20 miles (32km) of border wall will be erected in Starr County, an area where authorities have reported a significant surge in border crossings, according to BBC reports.

This decision marks a departure from Biden’s earlier stance, as building a border wall was a hallmark policy of former President Donald Trump’s administration and vehemently opposed by Democrats. During the 2020 election campaign, Biden assured US citizens that if elected, he would not authorize the construction of another inch of border wall.

Upon taking office, his administration promptly issued a proclamation stating that building a border wall “is not a serious policy solution.”

In response to the recent approval, the US Customs and Border Protection issued a statement defending the move, indicating that the funds for this border barrier had already been allocated by Congress in the fiscal year 2019 budget. They stated that they are required to use these funds for their intended purpose.

The rising number of illegal border crossings has become a significant challenge for President Biden’s administration, with over 245,000 crossings recorded in the Rio Grande Valley area alone this year, according to government data. This surge in immigration has also strained several US cities, including New York City, where Mayor Eric Adams has estimated that the cost of housing more than 100,000 new arrivals since last year could reach $12 billion over the next three years. Mayor Adams is currently on a trip to Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador to discourage migrants from embarking on the journey, citing limited capacity to accommodate new arrivals.

The Secretary of Homeland Security under the Biden administration has referred to an “acute and immediate need” to build the new section of the border wall to curb unlawful entries. To facilitate its construction, dozens of federal laws, including the Clean Air Act and Safe Drinking Water Act, have been waived, drawing criticism from environmentalists who argue that the structures will disrupt the habitats of endangered plants and animals.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.

According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.

Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.

Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.

Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
