SON Will Not Compromise Standards – DG

The Director-General, Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) Dr Osita Aboloma said the organization would not compromise standards of products manufactured locally and outside the country.
Aboloma stated this at the opening ceremony of two days capacity building workshop organized for factory inspectors from Bauchi, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, Yobe Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa states held at NUJ Bauchi Press Center Conference hall.
“Standard Organization of Nigeria will ensure that locally and foreign manufactured products will have the required level of satisfaction and standard desired by consumers before going to market”, he said
Aboloma urged the participants who are to be trained on factory inspection and products inspection to ensure that imported goods meet the minimum requirements of the industry standard in Nigeria or the approved standard.
He however charged the participants to pay much needed attention to the training to ensure effective service delivery and standardization of products in Nigeria.
The DG who was represented by Assistant Director Operations Alhaji Adamu Abba Bauchi said the training would go a long way to undertake conformity of assessment activities when acquire the skills by the staff.
One of the participants Engineer Abna Timothy said the two days training would focus on conformity assessment and inspection based on international standards.
He commended the organization for organizing such a capacity building training. Adding that the training is at the right time when the nation needs standard products and the way of check mating manufacturers in the country.
Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
