PDP Expresses Deep Disappointment Over Supreme Court Verdict
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced its deep disappointment and concern regarding the recent judgment from the Supreme Court in the case brought forward by the PDP and its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar. This case challenged the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Bola Ahmed Tinubu as winners of the February 25, 2023 Presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP, along with the majority of Nigerians, is disheartened and troubled by the rationale employed by the Supreme Court. The PDP firmly believes that this decision runs contrary to the explicit provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the Electoral Act, 2022, as well as the guidelines and regulations issued by INEC for conducting the election.
The PDP laments that this represents a sad state of affairs for our democracy, as the Supreme Court failed to uphold the rule of law. Instead, it dashed the hopes of the majority of Nigerians who looked to it as a bastion of impartiality, expecting it to dispense substantial justice in accordance with the laws and facts of the case.
Nigerians had hoped that the Supreme Court would uphold and defend the clear provisions of the 1999 Constitution regarding the qualifications and minimum requirements for declaring a winner in a Nigerian Presidential election. This includes the statutory requirement of 25% of votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as issues pertaining to electoral rule violations, blatant election result manipulations, and alterations carried out by the APC.
Nigerians are perplexed as to how the Supreme Court could overlook the serious matters of forgery, falsehood, and perjury on the grounds of technicalities.
The prevailing atmosphere of sadness, despair, and gloom across the country following this judgment raises concerns about the implications of this disappointment.
The Supreme Court’s decision has shaken the confidence of Nigerians in the judiciary, particularly in the Supreme Court, which is often regarded as the last bastion of hope for the common man.
The PDP, however, remains undeterred and urges Nigerians not to be disheartened or let this judgment deter them from their collective pursuit of a credible electoral system that can ensure a government truly deriving its legitimacy from the people.

Investigations by Nigerian Concord Newspaper reveal that the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers Council, Mr. Pius Akutah, has allegedly misappropriated public funds for a lavish lifestyle.
According to our findings, within months of assuming office, Akutah allegedly purchased a bulletproof SUV valued at approximately N850 million. In addition, he is reported to have acquired over twenty exotic SUVs for use as a convoy.
Akutah is also said to have acquired multiple high-value properties, including three in Abuja’s Maitama and Asokoro districts worth over N2 billion, and two in Lagos’ Banana Island valued at N1.8 billion. These acquisitions appear far beyond the scope of his official salary and allowances.
Further investigation suggests that Akutah may be using public funds to support political ambitions, including allegedly grooming militants across 23 local government areas in Benue State for a potential 2027 gubernatorial bid.
Staff of the Shippers Council reportedly claim that Akutah frequently accesses the council’s treasury without proper authorization. Some insiders have indicated that a petition will soon be filed with the EFCC, ICPC, and the Presidency to report his alleged misconduct.
