Nigerian music sensation Rema has announced the cancellation of his December shows to prioritize his health and take a break from the demands of touring. The Mavin Records star, who had a remarkable year with several accomplishments, including a headline performance at the O2 Arena, posted on his Instagram Stories that he needs time to recuperate after years of touring. Rema expressed his heartfelt regret for not being able to perform anywhere in December and stated that he would resume shows in 2024.
The sudden announcement comes after successful tours in Europe, Asia, and North America, impacting Rema’s planned homecoming tour in Abuja, Lagos, and his native Benin scheduled for December. Additionally, he was expected to perform at the Hey Neighbor Music Festival in South Africa from December 8 to December 10.
Rema’s decision to prioritize his health follows the chart success of his song “Calm Down,” which achieved historic rankings on both Apple Music and Spotify. The hit song secured the 12th position on the global top 100 most streamed songs on Apple Music in the past year, marking the highest entry ever for an African song on the chart. Additionally, “Calm Down” claimed the eighth spot on Spotify’s top 10 chart of the most streamed tracks globally, making it the first by a Nigerian Afrobeats artist to achieve this feat.
